You are allowed to ask this at 11pm. The short answer is no, not as a parent product you book the way you book ski school. A yellow itinerary is not freeride. Italy does not ban off-piste. Named ESF courses we fetched start at 13, 14, or 18. This is information, not legal or medical advice.

The fear is real. A rope looks optional. The snow on the other side looks softer. Someone's uncle did it with a seven-year-old in 2009. None of that is a product, a statute, or a reason to treat unmarked terrain as the family week.

The line we can support: stay on marked, open pistes unless you have booked a named, licensed product that states an age you actually meet. Yellow itinerary, when it is open, is its own thing. Freeride is not a ski kindergarten with deeper snow.

Real talk: skipping powder is not doing the Alps wrong. The default family product is the marked, open piste. That is the one the operator actually sells you.

Austria	The Österreichischer Alpenverein treats LVS, shovel, and probe as standard off-piste kit, an inseparable unit. A RIS search on 2026-09-04 did not turn up a national LVS Pflicht.	A statute that says Austria requires a beacon. Tirol pages we opened are piste-touring etiquette or visitor-management funding, not kit law.

What does not matter

Staying on marked, open pistes is not “doing it wrong.” That is the default product.
Italy Art. 30 RC insurance is for people using alpine pistes. It is not a reason to take a child off-piste.
Italy helmets changed. From 2025/26, Decreto-Legge 96/2025 converted as Legge 119/2025 deleted the age restriction. Every skier of every age. Fine EUR 100 to 150. They can take the lift pass. Do not re-assert the 2021 under-18 line.
A Swiss Youth and Sport leader exception is not permission for a visiting parent.
Savoie's 2024-2025 note recorded 9 fatal avalanche accidents in that prefecture note, 6 of them at risk 3/5. Cite the prefecture. Do not treat it as a national total.
No survival windows in minutes. No invented child minimum age. No Austrian school age we do not hold.

What to do tomorrow
